Clearing a path for women in tech: Second conference on blockchain technology “#moinblockchain” by moinworld in Hamburg

The Women Techmakers Community, blockchain startups, industry giants like Airbus and SAP got together last week to celebrate inclusivity in tech at the Center of Applied Aeronautical Research in Hamburg. The moinworld team around founder Anja Schumann invited an international crowd with thought leading speakers from ConsenSys, SAP, Airbus, IBM, Ernst & Young, BMW, IOTA, XAIN AG, BitPesa, and many more. As a special guest, second major of Hamburg Katharina Fegebank opened the event with inspiring words, motivating the audience to grow their knowledge about the foundational technology. In contrast to other conferences the team behind moinworld managed a second time in a row to attract a definite female presence and it affected the whole atmosphere. Reflection of moinworld’s mission

Moinworld’s mission is to make the tech world more inclusive and to demystify topics like blockchain while connecting the audience to globally known experts.

March 9th and 10th is was time again to find community and connection with other women and men interested in blockchain. The event featured talks and panel discussions with notable international speakers, as well as professionally hosted development sessions. The atmosphere at the event clearly reflected not only the host’s but also the participants’ eagerness to help women to be successful in their careers. “We are hiring and we would like to attract more women” was addressed in many of the talks during the two days.

Basic principles to use cases

Talks stretched from introducing basic principles, for example the history of money, over startup presentations to potential future use cases of the blockchain technology, for example in supply chain management or on e-government and digital identity.

Diversity meets tech innovation

Anja drew a consistently positive conclusion of the event:” For the second time in a row we were able to attract more than 150 people interested in Blockchain technology from all over the world and were even able to extend the program to two days with highly regarded speakers. Both the selected experts and the audience showed once again impressively that women in tech do not have to and should not be a minority. I would like to thank our sponsors Ernst & Young, Airbus, ConsenSys, SAP and epicenter as well as our speakers, moderators and volunteers for making this event happen. We look forward to 2019!”

As Dafi one of the speakers from Israel put it “the conference had a definite female presence and it affected the whole atmosphere. As someone who’s most likely in technological conventions with most of them masculine, I’ve certainly felt much more comfortable here, and I have no doubt that the women who were present at the conference got a motivational shot and inspiration.”.
